I catch myself watching a lot of HGTV, especially late at night when nothing else is on. So without further ado 13 Things I’ve Learned from HGTV.
- I wish Candice Olson and myself were BFF’s so I can put her creativity to good use.
- It is possible to over improve your home with renovations.
- More bathrooms equal more money in the bank on resale.
- If you have a rental unit in your home you need a fire barrier between units.
- It’s never good when bad people happen to good houses.
- If you’re buying a new home, specifically a townhouse or condo think about how far your parking spot is from your front door.
- Sometimes new construction cost equal to or less then and older home.
- People are addicted to granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances.
- Make sure to well educate yourself before doing a DIY before you end up on Renovation Realities.
- Not all of the people who are chosen as the next Design Star are stars.
- You can decorate a room on $300 worth of items from the $1.00 store.
- A lot of major renovations will go over budget.
- Paint can completely change the look of a room without changing anything else.
Of course I have learned so much more from all my many hours invested in watching HGTV, but there is only room for 13!

Hello, my name is Lass; and I’m a home improvement show junkie!! I love Candice Olson. Almost as much as I love Verne Yip and Mike Holmes.
Very good observations. We watch HGTV as well, and I know exactly what you mean. You can certainly a lot from this program.
I never could figure that out about the number of bathrooms….when only two people live in the house….two is plenty…not five or more!!! ————-they all need scrubbing! Not me….mmmm, mmmm….no way! Two’s plenty.
My 13 is a mixture of funny and fact this week! I also started my 3rd year of October Halloween Treat hand outs on my blog to all the ‘visitors’ [trick r treaters] who stop by! Come on over!!!! [You'll need to scroll down a bit below my Thursday Thunks Meme entry to view my 13] Happy day to you….see you at my October Abode!
i love hgtv!!! i missed it when i didn’t have cable for a few years. happy tt!
Wow I didn’t know a lot of those… then again I don’t have cable so I don’t watch HGTV. Happy T13!
This is why we are HGTV addicts in our house, there is so much information. Admittedly some of it is better than others; but almost all of it is useful in one way or another.
I watch a lot of late night HGTV too, and I have to agree with #8, for a while it was such a new, clean look….but now I am tired of it. Someone creative (not me!) needs to come up with something new for kitchens.
